Duplicated: Extreme Heat! Why should you reconsider your next vacation?

Summer is not over yet; many are on vacation, and others plan to travel to their favorite destinations but BE CAREFUL! Your destination city may be on the blacklist of the historical heat record this 2023.

Countries like the United States, Europe, China, and many others are experiencing a natural phenomenon known as a global heatwave, which has unfortunately claimed many victims.

According to Yale Climate Connection, Death Valley reached 129°F (54°C) (120°F or 49°C during the night), China set its historical heat record, and extreme temperatures became relentless in Europe and places like Reno, Nevada.

Southern and Central Florida in the United States, where millions of tourists converge for the summer, are on high alert due to high humidity and extreme heatwaves with temperatures above 110°F (43.3°C).

In Kingman, Arizona, a new record was set on June 15th with 114°F, and on Sunday, June 16th, Reno, Nevada, matched its all-time high with 108°F (42°C). Phoenix also recorded 17 consecutive days reaching at least 110°F (43°C).

In southern Europe, the heatwave is bringing temperatures of over 45°C, and among the most affected destinations are Greece, eastern Spain, Sardinia, Sicily, and parts of Italy; precisely, the beautiful city of Rome has turned into an oven. Its summer is always intense and noticeable, with temperatures above 95°F (35°C), but this year, the situation is extreme and worrying, especially considering that this city is best explored on foot; it is common to see tourists and locals wandering its narrow, cobbled streets, enjoying the history and beauty of Rome.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has warned that “intense heat is taking hold of much of the northern hemisphere in this summer of extremes,” with new records daily, surpassing 40°C as recorded in the Italian towns of Licata (46.3°C) or Riesi (45.8°C), while on the contrary, heavy precipitation has caused devastating floods and loss of lives in countries like South Korea, Japan, or the northeastern United States.

Climate change leads us to reconsider our destinations for these vacations, especially due to the risks and health complications that can include heat exhaustion, dizziness, nausea, headaches, confusion, and even deadly heatstroke.

We must consider that we may endure short periods of heat, but when we are out and about in high temperatures, it becomes nearly impossible to enjoy our itinerary fully. Many outdoor activities are affected or, in many cases, suspended due to the heat’s effects, which can quickly drain our energy, leading to fatigue and dehydration.

Summer can be dangerous due to extreme weather

Remember that to fully enjoy our vacations, we must prioritize our well-being. Planning a trip with better weather conditions for Spring or Fall can save your days off and prevent them from becoming a nightmare.

Tell us, what’re you doing to counteract these heatwaves, and what destinations are you considering visiting in the coming months?
